Rules of Play

  1. In general we will follow the rules as outlined by Baseball Canada.

  1. Local Rules: For the 2012 season the games will consist of two 5 inning games with each team being the home team for one of the games. This can be decided by mutual agreement or a flip of the coin on that day. The team hosting the game would be responsible for supplying the umpires. The second game should commence asap after the completion of the 1st game. (see mercy rule below)

 NEW For 2011

If a game is tied at the completion of the regulation game, the following procedures will be implemented during the extra innings

·        Each team will begin the extra inning(and any subsequent extra inning) with a player on first and second, no outs.

·        The batting order will continue on from the end of the previous inning.

·        The game will continue as normal until a winner is determined.

DH: During the regular season a DH can be used for any player.

During the play-offs the DH can be used for the pitcher only.

NO CHANGE FROM LAST YEAR

Total Pitches Allowed in a Day

Additional Pitch Count changes include the following:

1.      A pitcher may pitch 3 consecutive days if their  first two (2) days combined does not exceed:  Bantam: 35 Midget: 40

EG. If a pitcher’s Day 1 + Day 2 total exceeds the figure shown above, they require at least one days rest. A pitcher cannot pitch four consecutive days. Minimally one days rest is required. Example: A Pee Wee Pitcher throws 15 pitches on Day 1 (Friday). That same pitcher throws 10 pitches on Day 2 (Saturday). This pitcher is allowed to pitch on Day 3 (Sunday) to their maximum limit, which for Pee Wee is 85. This is a change from the previous rule where a pitcher could not pitch on 3 consecutive days.

2.      Once a player assumes the role of pitcher, they cannot catch for the remainder of the day. This rule allows a player to catch, and then pitch in the same game or the same day. However a player cannot pitch and then catch in the same game or day. This is a change from the previous rule that said players cannot pitch and catch in the same day.

3.      Pitchers shall be permitted to have two (2) appearances in the same calendar day, however if a pitcher requires a rest following their first appearance, they cannot return in the same calendar day. This is not a change.

Re-Entry Rule: This rule is in effect for the regular season and

play offsThis means that a starting player may be

substituted for and the re-enter the game later. He

must re-enter into the same spot in the batting

                                order that he vacated.

Mercy Rule: This rule may be used (if the losing side agrees) when

one team is ahead after 4-innings (3 ½) (10 runs). The object is to get

                         players playing.

Bats: Wood or composite bats are used this year. This rule reflects

changes made at the Bantam AAA and Midget levels in

            previous years.

Balls: The official ball is the Diamond D1  or Diamond DC 1
