Free Guard Zone

Four (4) rock free guard zone rule in effect.

Time-Outs - Teams may call two sixty second time outs per game. One time out per extra end is allowed. The coach may confer with the team at that time. A player or coach of the team whose clock is running may only call a time out. The team that called the time out may access the playing surface with their coach. The team that did not call the time out may confer with the coach but they shall not access the playing surface. These two time outs are in addition to the five minute time out after the 4th end. Before the first extra end, there will be a two minute break, where the coach is allowed to go onto the ice to talk to their rink.

Time

·         An end is considered complete when the last rock of the end has reached the T-line at the throwing end.

·         If a team is unable to commence play at the designated time, it shall be assessed a penalty of one point and one end shall be considered played for the first 5 minutes the team is late. One penalty point shall be considered for each additional five minutes the team is late. When the game commences, the non-offending team will be given the choice of last rock. After thirty minutes have elapsed, the non-offending team shall be declared the winner.

·         Scorecards will be placed behind each sheet. The winning team must sign the card and turn it into the Convenor immediately after the game.

·         Thirds make their own measurements. If there are any concerns, the Convenor can be summoned to assist.

Games
All games will be eight (8) ends using time clocks. (64 minutes for each team). In the event of a tie, at the end of the 8th end, an extra end is necessary and shall be played in rotation until a winner is declared. If a team's clock runs out they must sit on the sideline while the opposing team continues to throw rocks and the 8 ends are finished.

Time Clocks

·         The game & the delivering team’s game clock starts when the first stone of the game reaches the tee line of the delivering end.

·         The delivering team’s game clock runs until:

A) All stones have come to rest or crossed the back line;

B) The playing area has been given to the other team; that is the person in charge of the house has moved behind the back line and the sweepers have moved to the sides of the rink

·         When these conditions have both been met the non-delivering team becomes the delivering team and their game clock starts

·         Both game clocks are stopped when the final stone of an end, and all stones it affects have come to rest or have crossed the back line.

·         Game clocks are stopped any time an umpire intervenes or is called to make a judgment on the ice.

Uniforms

Style and colour of uniform must be consistent throughout the team. Uniforms must also be representative of their school. Jeans are unacceptable. Any curler deemed in violation may be subject to a fined levied by the zone.

Number of Players

You must start each game with four curlers. IF one has to drop out due to injury/sickness, we allow that, but that would be for the only reason. To go to another sport would not be acceptable.
